Training Program

A Hamlet participant wearing a black t-shirt is talking to a customer seated in the cafe. The customer has just been served a burger and salad, and a large glass of cola.

We deliver hands on hospitality training and workplace readiness support to people facing barriers to employment with a focus on people living with disability.

Our training is delivered at our social enterprise café which means our participants can build skills in a real workplace environment.

Our training programs include hospitality specific training and wrap around support in areas including literacy and numeracy, digital literacy, workplace presentation, interview preparation, resume building and communication to ensure our graduates are best equipped to enter the workforce.

Our programs are offered Monday – Friday with participants completing 3 x 4hour shifts a week.

On average our participants engage in approximately 150 hours of training before they are ready to graduate.

We have developed 2 training programs as follows:

Cafe and Customer Service

This program is ideal for people wanting to build skills in the café and customer service industries.

Key skills you will learn include: Customer service, point of sales, floor management, working in a team and workplace communication.

Kitchen

This program is perfect for those interested in starting a career in cooking or looking to get their foot in the door in the hospitality industry.

Key skills you will learn include: OH&S, working in a commercial kitchen, food safety, food preparation, kitchen equipment and basic cooking method.

We are currently not accepting Expressions of Interest for our training programs while we work through our waitlist and build a second kitchen, which will allow us to train more participants. If you have any questions, please email Amy at training@hamlet.org.au
